Save Alta Woods
Don't let this special public space
become someone's second(!) driveway.
IMMEDIATE CALL TO ACTION FOR HIDDEN VALLEY RESIDENTS
SAY NO to the Proposed 2nd Driveway of 800 Corte Madera Ave
Threatening Our Open Space, Safety, & Peaceful Streets
📍 Attend the Town Council Meeting – August 5 at 6:30 PM
📝 Email the Council: Oppose This Project’s Approval
🌲 Protect Our Woods & Community
The proposed 2nd driveway would slice through public land (right-of-way) in peaceful Alta Woods, near #4 Alta Terrace (at the hairpin turn) — threatening trees, habitat, and public land that belongs to all of us.
🚚 Construction requires cutting 370 cubic yards of dirt and hauling in 875 cubic yards of fill. That’s more than 100 dump trucks rumbling through Sausalito Street, increasing noise, dust, and danger.
🌿 Tree Removal and Erosion Risks
The project removes 47 trees and significantly disturbs the hillside. Only 10 replacement trees will be planted in the construction area. Expect increased erosion, drainage problems, and loss of native habitat for at least 10 months.
🔥 Fire Safety Claims Don’t Hold Up
The owners claim this driveway is for evacuation — but Central Marin Fire Chief Ruben Martin confirmed the existing circular driveway from Corte Madera Ave already accommodates emergency vehicles.
❌ Unnecessary Construction on Public Land
A 120-foot (of a total length of 445 feet) private driveway would be in public open space. The construction road (also in public right of way) continues for 350 feet beyond this driveway, with a truck turnaround at the end— all for private use during construction. Nearly half of the current public space would be graveled over, equivalent to 3300 square feet of public space.
🚦 More Traffic, Less Tranquility
Beyond construction chaos, this driveway would open a new traffic path onto Sausalito Street and Alta Terrace — inviting more vehicles, noise, and disruption into our neighborhood.
